Writing can be hard. Sometimes, you want to write but you just do not know what to write or how to go about writing it. In this post, I’ll share with you ideas on how to get writing inspiration.

So, when next you do not know what to write or how to write, you can always look back on the idea in this article and get started.

No matter your niche the ideas in this post will help you in the best way to find inspiration in writing.

In case you do not know, you need to be psychologically motivated to write well. Otherwise, you won’t be able to put words together.

Therefore, you need to find a way to stay motivated and inspired.

Before going into details, however, one important thing that can help you find inspiration as a writer is to surround yourself with like-minded people.

If you are in the sports niche, for example, surround yourself with people who talk about sports on all platforms you are active on.

Naturally, you’ll find inspiration by regularly seeing content about Sports.

This applies to all niches.

Now, let’s get more specific on how you can get writing inspiration.

1. Research Competitors

When you are lost and do not know what to write, one of the best ways to overcome that is to research competitors.

The best way to research a competitor in order to find topics to write on is by using 3rd-party tools like SEMrush or Ahref.

SEMrush offers about 10 searches per day FREE although with limited functionality. So, I’ll use the tool in this article because you can use it without paying.

Follow the steps below to find out topics to write on.

  • Identify one or more competitors
  • Look them up on SEMrush
  • Select Keyword Gap
  • Filter keywords by the Search volume. For new sites, a search volume of 10 and above is still fine because this software is never accurate.
  • Sort Keywords by difficulty. For growing sites, a difficulty level of 35 and below is fine. Just make sure you make your content well optimized.

2. Topic Cluster

Topic clusters should not be new to you. But in case you do not know what it means to write so many articles around a particular content pillar.

For example, if your content pillar is “email marketing”, you can have over 10 topic clusters to write about email marketing.

The idea of the topic cluster is to have topical authority and be deemed a reliable source by the Search Engine.

Going back to our earlier example about email marketing. Let’s assume you are writing about how to write an email newsletter.

In the article, there could be a mention of email marketing terminology like Open Rate.

This could be needed to write a full blown article on the Open Rate metric.

When I am writing any topic, related topics naturally come to my head – which I create a draft for immediately. That way, I hardly run out of ideas of what to write. It becomes a case of which should I develop next.

Another important reason why topic clusters are good is that it creates perfect opportunities for sweet and natural internal linking.

3. Twitter

Assuming you are already following my advice of following like-minded individuals or bloggers in your niche, Twitter is a perfect place to get inspiration on what to write about.

You should find so many educational threads by influencers in your niche.

In addition, when Twitter’s algorithm understands the kinds of topics you follow, more threads about those topics will continually show on your timeline whether you follow the thread-maker or not.

Therefore, you need to interact more with topics that align with your blog niche.

So, assuming you found an educational or interesting thread in your niche, how does that help you?

Simply copy the idea in the thread, create a draft on your blog, do more research and write a top quality article like a pro. It’s that simple.

The idea here is to get inspiration on what to write. So, any useful idea should get you going.
